US Invasion of Japan
The US feared an invasion of Japan due to the large number of casualties expected. The Japanese prepared networks of trenches to fight to the last man hill for hill. In the beginning of the war bombing civilians was considered barbaric but through the length and size of the war this was forgotten. Many of the cities in Japan were already destroyed from b-52 fire bombings. The atomic bomb would be no different in terms of targets and casualties.
