The Tale “The cask of Amontillado“ written by Edgar Allen Poe in 1846 is set in an unnamed European city. Poe writes this story from the perspective of Montresor who vows revenge against Fortunato in an effort to support his family motto: "Nemo me impune lacessit" or "No one insults me with impunity."
